National Student Survey 2025 results published

A message from Professor Sam Grogan, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience:

The 2025 National Student Survey (NSS) results were released nationally yesterday morning (9 July 2025), and at an overall institutional level, we have improved our outcomes compared to the 2024 results.

We gained our most positive response (89.7%) in two of the survey’s seven themed areas: questions about Academic Support – how easy it is to contact teaching staff and how well they support students’ learning – and those about Learning Resources (eg IT and library facilities).

We gained the biggest year-on-year improvements in scores for the questions about Assessment and Feedback and Student Voice. These areas cover the clarity and effectiveness of our assessment and feedback practices, and the opportunities students have to give feedback, including whether it is clear that feedback has been acted on.

The Planning team are currently analysing the data in detail and will share the School-level outcomes with relevant colleagues in the coming days.

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone for their hard work in enhancing the student experience over the past year. While there are variations across different programmes, our overall institutional improvement is encouraging.

Predictably, we’re now working to fully digest the outcomes – in the near future, I’ll be in contact with colleagues across Schools and Professional Services to agree on a targeted set of focused actions to address any issues and to continue improving in areas where we have performed well. As ever, the key here will be to work with collective effort at doing fewer, impactful actions with consistency and quality across our Schools and Professional Services.

We have scheduled meetings before the start of the next academic session to discuss and agree on both short-term actions, which will have an immediate impact, and longer-term actions that may take more time to implement.

Let’s continue working together to deliver the outstanding student experience that we are known for.
