Navigating your new internal homepage

It’s been just over a month since we launched our new internal homepage, and we wanted to share some helpful tips and best practices to help navigate the new site.

While the homepage has kept the majority of its same features, it’s now presented in a more streamlined, accessible, and engaging format. Here are some of the new features we think you’ll find useful:

  • Centralised search bar: a relocated main search bar to find content across the website.
  • New ‘Spotlight’ and pinned content: Important news, events and information can now be more prominently highlighted, preventing you from missing key updates, especially during busier periods of the academic year.
  • Streamlined mega menu: We’ve decluttered the mega menu to provide a cleaner, more efficient signposting service to University teams, academic departments, services and useful resources.

The way you browse news and events has changed slightly with a new tab-based layout:

  • Your news: internal updates and stories relevant to our University community, eg students and/or staff.
  • University news: news and information that is relevant for staff and students as well as members of the public
  • Noticeboard: a space for staff and students to submit University information and opportunities that would not typically sit under ‘news’, such as call-outs for research participants, informal opportunities or voluntary vacancies, and temporary changes to our campus or services.
  • Events: a section showing our upcoming events. You can also use the tabs at the bottom of the page to view staff and student only events, or events open to everyone.

You will still find familiar quick links on the right-hand sidebar, such as my.HR, webmail, job vacancies and PDR as well as access to reporting and request systems and portals.

Please note that as we continue to transition to the new system, you may experience slight issues as we work through adjustments – we thank you in advance for your patience should these occur. If the formatting of your internal homepage appears to look unusual, we’d encourage you to clear your cache for your selected browser. In Microsoft Edge, you can do this by clicking the three dots in the top right corner, select ‘Settings’, and go to ‘Privacy, search and services’. From here, you can select what browsing data you want to clear for a select time period.

We also welcome any feedback you might have about the new site so we can continue to improve it. Please email notifications@lboro.ac.uk
