Loughborough’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, has chosen two winning designs submitted by students for the 2025 Christmas Card Design Competition.

The University’s strategy ‘Creating Better Futures. Together is outward and forward-looking, recognising the importance of our external influence and the impact of our actions on the world around us, and reflecting the challenges that face us as a society.

One of our strategic aims is to be more equitable, diverse and inclusive – and so, students who entered the competition were asked to consider the following statements, and develop designs that reflect a sense of kindness, community and connections beyond the campus:

  • We will create a culturally vibrant student community that benefits from the inclusion of students from across the globe and who are taught by diverse staff
  • We will be accountable for our actions, we will care for ourselves, others and our environment
  • We will foster team spirit and create a strong sense of community; we will work together with colleagues, students, alumni and partners

Each competition winner will receive £200. The winning designs are also available to purchase on the University shop website. This year’s winners are as follows:

Amandine Mondion, Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering

A Christmas card design with text that reads: Reflecting on her card, Amadine said: "Amandine Mondion’s illustration plays with the idea of Loughborough University as a place where ideas are constantly taking flight. Each balloon carries a symbol of curiosity, creativity or play, drifting together through a soft winter sky. Her design aims to capture the joy of shared journeys and the quiet magic that happens when different passions rise side by side."

Jana Kandasamy-Natarajan, School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Material Engineering

A Christmas card design that reads Speaking about her design, Jana said: “This Christmas card design integrates Loughborough University’s distinctive culture, heritage, and commitment to excellence. Centred on the Hazlerigg Building and its illuminated fountain, the composition symbolises the University’s academic stature and its role as a catalyst for innovation and community. Surrounding visual elements reference Loughborough’s globally recognised sporting legacy and its enduring culture of creativity and achievements.

“I draw inspiration from the festive tradition of showcasing one’s most meaningful accomplishments. Within this design, every visual element was intentionally selected to evoke pride, purpose, and a profound sense of collective memory, honouring not only the University’s achievements, but also the vibrant community that makes them possible.”
