The event marked the launch of the next round of the Community Donations Fund and introduced the University’s new Community Hub, designed to strengthen collaboration with local groups.
Bringing together groups that have already benefited from the fund and those eager to get involved, there was a vibrant mix of celebration, networking and idea-sharing. Three inspiring projects shared their successes and the positive impact they’ve made in the community. Attendees also learned about projects supported over the summer through the Open Fund and Inside Out Fund, which have helped youth centres, charities supporting asylum seekers and refugees, and other local organisations deliver meaningful activities for the community.

The newly launched Community Hub is designed to strengthen partnerships between the University and local organisations. It serves as a central space for community groups to showcase projects, share opportunities, and connect with University staff. This initiative is part of the University’s Vibrant and Inclusive Communities strategic theme, which aims to foster civic partnerships and encourage active engagement in local development.
As part of this commitment, University staff can volunteer their time to support projects listed on the Hub. All substantive staff are entitled to an annual volunteering day, which can be taken individually or as a team, an excellent opportunity to give back to the community. Projects range widely, so staff can choose opportunities that match their interests and skills.
