The accreditation is an international quality mark for parks and green spaces and recognises the hard work and dedication of the team that cares for the green space so that staff, students, and visitors can enjoy it.
Rich Fenn-Griffin, Assistant Gardens Manager, said: “The award recognises the Gardens Team’s progress in delivering an inspiring, sustainable and biodiverse green environment in which teaching, research, sport, enterprise and living can take place.
“We have made big inroads into our action plan, delivering a new interactive woodland walk, undertaking new tree planting at West Park Teaching Hub, reducing herbicide use on campus, and developing the skills and knowledge of our team. The award recognises the important value of our greenspaces for supporting staff and students in their wellbeing, mental health and providing a beautiful place to work.”
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
