The Environmental Sustainability and Development Policy will help deliver the ambitions of the University’s Sustainability Strategy, and looks to achieve the initial key objectives and commitments through the identified actions.
While the strategy provides the overarching vision and direction, the policy translates this into clear expectations for day-to-day decision-making, operations, and development across the University.
Nik Hunt, Environmental Manager at the University said: “The principles of the policy are there to drive an improvement in our relationship with the environment and wider social sustainability. The University has committed to supporting the aims of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and the policy is a key driver to many of these but in particular SDG’s 11,12,13,15 and 17.”
The policy is an update to the previous Environmental Sustainability Policy and has developed over the last 10 years to meet the requirements of our ISO14001 and ISO20121 certifications. ISO14001 is an international standard for the Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO20121 is the international standard for Sustainable Events Management System (SEMS). It is these systems which help us manage our impact on the environment and its impact on us as well as our compliance with legislation.
The SEMS will help us develop the sustainability of our events on and off campus and the events of those who come to campus to use our facilities.
