Support and resources available for estranged students

An estranged student is someone who does not receive support from their parents (biological, step or adoptive) due to a breakdown in their relationship.

Evidencing your estrangement can be complicated, so the University encourages students to visit the Student Advice and Support Service webpages for more guidance.

If you would like to book a wellbeing appointment, please fill out the online form. Alternatively, you can email studentwellbeing@lboro.ac.uk.

Staff from the University’s Student Services team will be running a stand in the Edward Herbert Building on the East Midlands campus on Wednesday 27 November from 12pm-1pm and students are welcome to speak to the team about the support available.

There are also a range of external resources available, including:

  • All of Us – a community for estranged and care-experienced students across the UK.
  • Together Estranged – An online support group which provides free services to adults estranged from family members
  • The EaCES Handbook – A site created by current estranged and care-experienced students in the UK which includes a handbook providing guidance on practical support, financial support, relationship help, physical and mental wellbeing tips, as well as building connections.
