How to have an effective Professional and Development Review (PDR)

This year’s PDR cycle is now underway and it’s your opportunity to reflect on the last year and to plan for the year to come with a supportive colleague.

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Jennings, recently spoke with Pauline Matturi to discuss the new changes to PDR and why it is so important.

The changes to the 2024 PDR cycle include new sections on the online system for ‘Wellbeing’ and ‘Career Aspirations’. If you’d like to understand better all of the changes to PDR ahead of your conversation – whether you are a reviewer or a reviewee – please visit the ‘What’s new’ section of the PDR website which provides more detail, in addition to the specific objectives that should be included.

This year, colleagues have been asked to set an EDI Performance Objective. We recognise that this may be unfamiliar to some, so we have provided additional guidance on the ‘What’s New’ page linked above. Also, colleagues from the EDI Team have published a blog that shares additional resources and provides examples.

For those new to PDR reviewing, or for those who would like a refresh and to understand the changes further, online training can be found on Learn. A supplementary, scenario-based session is still available to book on 26 February via My.HR.

If you have any queries about the PDR process or would like to give your feedback on how it has gone for you this year, please contact OD@lboro.ac.uk. Your HR Business Partner is also able to provide support and advice in advance of a PDR conversation if this is needed.
