‘Bringing Design to the People’ is about empowering students to rediscover and enrich their dissemination and self-promotion skills, particularly in the creative industries, for professional practice and public engagement.
It aims to:
- Advance students’ public interaction skills, transforming them into confident facilitators of vibrant and creative communities.
- Improve student outreach and dissemination skills and increase their confidence in communicating to external audiences about their work.
- Provide access to and support for getting involved in on-campus events to enable practice and confidence building.
- Increase public exposure to students’ innovative, empathic, and creative work.
- Enable students to become facilitators of building meaningful and lasting connections between the University, Charnwood residents, community stakeholders, and Charnwood Borough Council.
If you’re a student who is interested in attending some upcoming training sessions led by the team, as well as taking part in some engagement events, please complete the Expression of Interest form. For further information please contact Dr Nikki Clark, Lecturer in Design at n.clark@lboro.ac.uk.
A group of postgraduate students from the University are already using local events to showcase and bring to life their design project, Hibe. Hibe is a service that helps the public declutter their e-waste with purpose by giving them a second life. They’ll be at Loughborough Market on 7 September from 8am-4pm to advise locals on how they can recycle and donate their unwanted electrical items. At future markets, they hope to be accompanied by their chosen charity partner so they’re able to physically collect unwanted items at their stall, providing reports to donors afterwards that track the impact of their donation.
