Several colleagues spoke and led workshop sessions, facilitating collaboration between academia and industry, particularly in the field of sport, health and wellbeing.
During session one, attendees heard from Dr Serhat Yilmaz who discussed Loughborough University’s pioneering Sports Agent Education, bringing together world-leading research expertise alongside industry insight. Attendees also received information from Dr Marco Pino about RealTalk, an innovative educational approach that aims to enhance the quality and effectiveness of communications skills training, in the area of end-of-life care.
Attendees also heard from the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation team about processes and procedures on how to disclose new ideas, how to protect them, how to secure funding for PoC work and to determine route to market, which can be licensing the idea/technology or spinning out a new company to commercialise the technology.
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) session followed session one, where perspectives and insights were shared from Kamran Hussein, Henk Versteeg and the KTP team. Kamran Hussein, KTN Adviser, opened the session, explaining KTPs, which are three-way collaborations between the University, an external organisation and an associate. Henk Versteeg, Senior lecturer in Fluid Mechanics discussed his experience as a Lead Academic on a KTP project. The KTP team shared insight into the work they do as a team, the benefits of a KTP to the schools and academics, and the main expectations of involvement in a KTP project.
The third session started with Professor Mark King, speaking about DineticQ, an interactive cricket coaching feedback system built for participants varying from beginner to professional. In the second half of the session, attendees heard from Ed Gibbins about Rewire Fitness, a mental fitness platform that helps athletes reach their full potential and avoid burnout by providing tools that improve mindset, readiness and resilience.
To bring the session to a close, attendees were asked to provide feedback and had some time to continue networking.
