School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering announce new Visiting Professors

The School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering (ABCE) is delighted to announce that Pete Skipworth and Gary Shuckford will be joining as Visiting Professors.

The individuals were both nominated by Professor Chris Gorse, who will be working closely with them throughout their time at the University.

As Visiting Professor of Environmental Monitoring and Management, Pete will assist Professor Gorse and other staff at Loughborough University with delivering high-quality research and innovation linked to environmental monitoring products and solutions that help communities be more resilient and benefit from improved living conditions.

Pete has extensive knowledge of the sector; he has developed several successful companies in smart environmental monitoring and management which has demonstrated his ability to recognise and support innovation based on the technologies and research developed in the companies he has and still directs today. His work has improved access to water and supported improved response and resilience to the environmental conditions that communities are exposed to.

He has previously worked alongside Professor Gorse at Leeds Beckett University as part of the Leeds Sustainability Institute. Professor Skipworth’s contribution will help the School to be recognised internationally as a hub for research and world-leading innovation in resilient and sustainable communities.

Gary will work at Loughborough University as a Visiting Professor of Sustainable Healthcare. Having also previously partnered with Professor Gorse, Gary enabled the development of networks in healthcare organisations and professionals engaged in digital infrastructure and the built environment. This resulted in a group of academic partners, strategic NHS Estates practitioners and clinicians forming a responsive network ready for EPSRC healthcare and Innovate UK smart funding streams.

He has represented healthcare companies and trade bodies at national and international levels, facilitating substantive collaborative partnerships between companies. He is particularly proud of the health impact generated through these partnerships.

Gary is the founder and current director for several companies, including Primary Care Physio Ltd, Promatica Digital Services & PRISM, and Edenbridge Healthcare Limited.

Both Pete and Gary have joined the School on an initial three-year appointment and began their roles earlier this month.
