The project will serve as an open forum for Black students to express themselves and showcase their creativity. The output from the student participation will culminate in a final installation piece that will be showcased at the University in the new year.

There will be three creative workshops taking place, involving poetry and spoken word, illustrations, collages, and slogans and positive affirmations. Students are welcome to attend however many they wish, but will need to book each workshop separately.

Booking details and further information on each of the workshops can be found below:

Focus on sharing with the world why you love being Black in poster format. Think about slogans to celebrate Black identity, positive affirmations to encourage self-love or anything you can think of that represent BLACK joy. Materials and template posters will be provided to get your creative juices flowing!

The second workshop of the series focuses on creating an artwork representing the Black student experience. What’s your experience as a Black student? What does it look like? What does it feel like? Whatever your experience is, share it in visual form using the template provided, using collage, illustration and poetry. Materials will be provided, just bring your ideas!

The last workshop will be about capturing your identity in flag form. If you were to design a flag that represents your identity, what would it look like? What colours would you use to represent who you are? Would it represent where you were born? Where you grew up? Think also about shapes and patterns you would like to include. Materials and examples of African flags will be provided to help you come up with your very own flag design!

All of the workshops are free to attend. If you have any specific access requirements, please let LU Arts know via the booking form or by emailing luarts@lboro.ac.uk in advance of booking.
