Staff to be recognised for their invaluable contributions with the Vice Chancellor’s Annual Awards

From September, the University will hold an annual awards ceremony to congratulate staff who have achieved amazing things.

The Vice Chancellor’s Annual Awards aim to recognise, honour and celebrate members of the University community who have demonstrated their commitment to the institution’s aims and values.

There will be a particular emphasis on contributions linked to togetherness, a key theme within the University’s strategy, Creating Better Futures. Together.

Our University strategy has institutional-level themes that we will use to amplify the impact of our most significant strengths. We will ensure that our life-shaping student experience develops individuals who have a positive influence across diverse communities, improving society and enriching cultures. Awards for research link to our aim to create an environment where interdisciplinary research and innovative teams can flourish. Engaging in strategic partnerships to amplify our impact on societal and cultural issues will ensure we create meaningful partnerships, and we wish to award colleagues for their contributions in such areas.

Colleagues will be awarded for contributions to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, as we aim to ensure that Loughborough University is anti-discriminatory, diverse and inclusive - creating a culture where everyone feels they belong. Bringing together our creative, analytical and technological expertise to accelerate a reduction of global emissions is key for our climate change and net zero aspirations, therefore awards will acknowledge work in such areas. Sport is at the heart of what we do at Loughborough University; we continue to build our global position in sport and exercise to drive, innovate and impact sport, health and wellbeing both nationally and internationally.

A judging panel will be convened to go through the nominations in September, and shortlisted teams and individuals will be invited to attend an in-person awards ceremony on Tuesday 27 September.

When asked why he has initiated a University-wide awards initiative, Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings commented: “I want to highlight and celebrate the amazing work of individuals and teams at the University. The success of our strategy depends upon the actions of staff across the whole institution and these awards provide a means of recognising these important contributions. I am keen to look back over the previous 12 months so that we can inspire and support staff for the coming year. I look forward to sharing the achievements with our University community at the awards event.”
