Staff and Doctoral Researchers: Revisions to the new on-campus car parking charging structure

Following the initial announcement in March 2022, some revisions have been made to the new car parking charging structure for staff and Doctoral Researchers that will come into effect from September 2022.

The changes are as follows:

  • The original group of Grades 4-7 has been split. Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-7 will now be grouped separately.
  • The annual permit cost for Grades 4-5 and Doctoral Researchers has been lowered.
  • Occasional User credits will now be charged at the daily equivalent rate of the full-time annual permit. Up to a maximum of 120 credits can be purchased over a 12-month period.

The new charges will be:

Annual permit

Grades 1-3

£0

Grades 4 and 5 and Doctoral Researchers

£100 for full-time staff

(which equates to 45p per day)

£70 for part-time staff

(which equates to 30p per day)

Grades 6 and 7

£176 for full-time staff

(which equates to 80p per day)

£121 for part-time staff

(which equates to 50p per day)

Grades 8 and above

£300 for full-time staff

(which equates to £1.35 per day)

£209 for part-time staff

(which equates to 90p per day)

Occasional User credits

Grades 4 and 5 and Doctoral Researchers

£0.45

Grades 6 and 7

£0.80

Grades 8 and above

£1.35

All other aspects of the scheme remain the same.

Grades 1-3 will no longer pay for their parking from 1 February 2022. Members of staff on those grades will still need to display a permit in their vehicle, however, when it is parked on the campus.

Any staff who have low/zero emissions cars and currently pay nothing for car parking will begin to pay from autumn 2023. They will, however, have to pay to charge their vehicle on campus from autumn 2022. The initial cost will be 18p/kWh. Based on current usage levels the average cost would be £1.98 per charge. The electric charging points on campus will be upgraded, with plans to more than double the number of them, over the next 12 months.
