Who am I?

Stop 6

We tend to think of plants as being rather static and unresponsive. Their rate of change to stimuli is much slower than ours and we often fail to notice. The changes of spring (when trees put on leaf) and autumn (when they lose their leaves) are easily noticed but did you know that oaks have a second growth of leaves in the summer (the Lammas growth). This phenomenon largely goes unnoticed unless the first lot are lost in serious drought (for example, in 2022). Plants are dynamic, exciting and resourceful - just like animals - you just need to be more patient and observational to notice.

Here you will take the time to learn more about a common tree and see how it has responded to changes in its environment. Step back and admire with awe - trees don’t rush, evolution has given them centuries to act.
