Woodland Walk Audio Tour

Sunlight shining through woodland in autumn

Ancient woodlands like Burleigh, are our most precious and biodiverse terrestrial ecosystem.  They contain thousands of species in a relatively small area with many of them not found in any other habitat type.

Ancient woodlands are described as semi-natural as these spaces have been influenced by humankind over the centuries between the wildwood and the present.  However, these management systems have often replicated natural processes and were consistent over long time periods - favouring high biodiversity.  The woodland you see today is the creation of a thousand years’ worth of human management - building on the diversity and spectacle that was the wildwood that one covered large swathes of Britain after the last Ice Age.

Join us on a journey through this natural wonder - appreciating that every inch has a story to tell not just about the natural world, but our relationship with it.
