Communications

What is the timeline for implementing Dynamic Working?

We are expecting managers to start implementing Dynamic Working within their teams from October 1st onwards with the expectation that everyone will have arrangements in place by the 31st October 2021.

What communications will be delivered and when are we expecting that to happen?

Updates will be provided to staff regularly beginning in September, to provide an overview of Dynamic Working and the framework that will guide its implementation. This Dynamic Working website will be the focus for information for both staff and managers, with news updates in the staff newsletter and from University senior managers, and staff briefings when appropriate. Managers should also be engaging regularly with their teams to disseminate information and allow staff to ask questions.

Not all roles will allow Dynamic Working / flexibility, how do we communicate this in a way that supports a shared understanding of the situation?

Managers should be clear in their early discussions with staff why some posts aren’t suitable for remote working; these staff have a particularly important role in delivering the campus experience for everyone at the University - students, staff, on campus partners and visitors. The situation will be kept under review, however, and, if technology or circumstances change, dynamic working could be extended to their them.  The University is also reassessing several policies that may provide additional support for staff who can’t work remotely. For example, a review of car parking may bring benefits for campus-based staff and a review of the models of reward and recognition may offer opportunities tailored for staff who can’t work remotely.
