Working on campus

How will car parking payment work?

The University Car Parking Policy is being reviewed to take account of Dynamic Working including for those colleagues whose roles require them to be on campus. There will be no changes to the Policy for the immediate start of Dynamic Working.

How will shared workstation working operate?

Where colleagues deliver a significant proportion of their role dynamically, if applicable, they may no longer have access to their own office or dedicated workstation. We will provide more workstations that can be shared by teams in a flexible way. The earliest any changes to office and desk arrangements will take place is at the end of phase 1 in January 2022 (other than pilot activity). Arrangements will be also made to ensure that staff have access to confidential meeting spaces where needed for their role.

How can I ensure there will be adequate space when I come onto campus?

During phase 1 (until January 2022), your usual workspace/desk will be available to you. New ways of working dynamically will include hot desking and the use of shared workspaces. A booking system for such spaces is being considered and may be implemented in some cases. Colleagues working dynamically are likely (once we are out of the initial phase) to share an office space with colleagues in order to realise space efficiency savings. Arrangements will be made to ensure that staff have access to confidential meeting spaces. Further information on future arrangements will follow.

Am I required to bring my monitors/keyboards/etc back to the office?

It is expected that your non-portable computing equipment will remain in your main place of work.  The University will not be equipping multiple working locations except in exceptional circumstances.

What arrangements will be made to  provide equipment to enable me to undertake Teams meetings whilst in the office?

Over-ear headsets with boom microphones and/or webcams will be made available on request to IT Services.

How will hot desking work when we have different laptops / docking stations etc?

Any shared equipment such as monitors and keyboards will use standard connectors for laptops (e.g. HDMI, USB, etc.).  You will be supplied with a USB hub if your University laptop does not have the necessary ports.

What if I need specialist software or equipment to work dynamically?

Access to specialist hardware or software will continue to be available on campus.  Remote access to some specialist equipment may be available but may be subject to licensing and security restrictions.
