How will Dynamic Working operate?

I live a long way from campus and really benefit from savings in travel time, will I be treated preferentially compared to members of the team that live close to campus?

No. Your home location will NOT be a factor in discussions regarding your Dynamic Working arrangements.

If I am on campus more than my colleagues, how will it be ensured that I am not expected to pick up additional duties around safety, security, such as fire marshals and first aiders?

It is important that we provide a safe working environment and this includes ensuring essential H&S roles are covered, therefore it may be necessary to reallocate and redistribute a number of duties to accommodate the new work patterns.  Your manager will be responsible for ensuring that arrangements are equitable and that additional loads are not placed on colleagues who choose to come into the office more than others.

How contactable do I need to be when I am not on campus?

When you are working you must remain fully contactable via MSTeams and CISCO Jabber.

When not working on campus, should my location be fixed?

Not necessarily. You should have a suitable workspace in which to work for the majority of your time but there may be occasions when you might need to work in other places. This will be fine provided you are able to maintain appropriate confidentiality of the work you’re doing and you have the necessary equipment available to do your job.

Could I be urgently recalled to campus if I am working from home?

Yes. This will ideally be kept to a minimum but it may be necessary in certain situations to ask you to attend campus when you are scheduled to work remotely, at short notice.

I want to work from home whilst looking after children, will I be granted Dynamic Working arrangements?

No. Colleagues working dynamically will be expected to make similar caring arrangements for dependents as if they were working from the office.

My role requires me to engage in work outside of normal UK office hours, how should this be handled within the Dynamic Working environment?

Your manager will determine the pattern of working hours needed to fulfil the requirements of your role. This should not change because of Dynamic Working.

Will my Dynamic Working agreements be shared with other members in the same team?

The expectation is that Dynamic Working patterns will be shared with team members as it will be important that you know each other’s whereabouts.  However, your individual circumstances that informed these agreements will not be shared.

Are commute times outside of working hours?

Yes

What are the expectations on when to send and respond to e-mails, outside normal work hours, when working from home?

With increased Dynamic Working it’s likely that some emails will be sent at times outside of the normal working day.  However, there will be no expectation for staff to respond to emails that are sent outside of their working hours.

Can Dynamic Working be revoked?

Yes. If the Dynamic Working arrangements are resulting in your role not being performed properly your manager will have a conversation with you to determine what needs to change. If over time performance continues to suffer because of the arrangements, they may ultimately be revoked. Should the needs of the University change it may also be necessary to revoke arrangements.

How flexible are Dynamic Working arrangements? Can they be changed depending on my changing needs?

Yes. If your needs change you should have a discussion with your line manager. If your new preference can be accommodated without affecting your delivery of the role or impacting other team members it may be agreed. This flexibility works both ways and as such changes in business need may also require changes to the arrangements.
