The event, hosted by the School of Design and Creative Arts in collaboration with the School and College Liaison team, saw students attend a variety of creative workshops that aimed to spark their interest in design and creative arts.   

This is the first year the University has run this event, and following a successful pilot, plans to host again next year.  

The two-day course (16-17 April 2024) saw pupils take part in a variety of workshops including ceramics, textiles screen printing and ‘stitch and sound’ which involved creating sounds through textiles. 

This event was attended by pupils from The Winstanley School, Hall Park Academy and Heath Lane Academy.  

Julie Wallace, Programme Director for Art and Design Foundation Studies said: “It was wonderful to welcome so many pupils from schools and be able to share creative possibilities in our workshops and for their future journeys.” 

Cathy Bell, Curriculum Leader for Art, Design and Technology at The Winstanley School commented: “It was a busy fast paced two days providing a thorough delve into a range of creative processes that could not be experienced in the classroom. It was well thought out and a carefully planned itinerary with a reflective approach. Super friendly staff – thank you.” 

Another teacher said the experience ‘helped students build confidence, skills and understand how creative courses work’. 

Students who attended the two-day visit felt inspired to study at Loughborough in the future and ‘enjoyed every moment’.  

As well as developing their interest in design and creative arts subjects, the event also aimed to help the students develop a range of key skills including teamwork and networking with new people.
