Loughborough University’s UNISON branch wins two awards

Loughborough University’s UNISON branch has won two prizes at this year’s Branch of the Year Awards.

The first was awarded for Best Recurring Branch, as Loughborough University’s membership had grown by more than 11%.

The second award – for best Higher Education Service Group – was given in recognition of how the branch had represented, serviced and communicated to its members in comparison to other UNISON branches within the East Midlands region.

The awards are open to the 140 UNISON branches within the East Midlands.

The ceremony, which took place earlier in the year at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Nottingham, was attended by local police and council branches, as well as those of higher education institutions.

Representing Loughborough at the awards were Joni Carter (Equalities Representative), Irvin Hendrickson (Branch Treasure), Lyn Hough (Branch Secretary), Dale Needham (Communications Officer) and Maria Lahetko-Davies (Welfare Officer).

UNISON represents and acts on behalf of members who work in the public sector, campaigning for a range of issues including workplace conditions and fair pay.
