Welcometo Loughborough

Before you arrive

Freshers' checklist

Before you arrive, there are a number of things you can do to make your first few days at university as enjoyable as possible; freeing up important time to meet new people and delve into the brand new world which awaits you at Loughborough University.

Retrieve your IT credentials

To make sure you have access to all of our online services, platforms and tools, we provide all new students with an email address, username and password.

Before you arrive, students will need to retrieve their IT credentials. You will be invited to do this 6 weeks prior to your arrival and you’ll need to do this before you can register online.

Further information can be found here.

Register online

Students will need to complete an online registration form before they arrive on campus. You will be able to do this approximately six weeks prior to your arrival.

Before you apply, we recommend that you source an appropriate image. This will be used for your student ID card and will need to adhere to our guidelines which are listed here.

Upon arrival, you will need to collect your new student ID card. For those living on campus, you can collect your student ID card from your new hall of residence. Click here for arrival information.

For those who will not be living in halls, you will be able to collect your student ID card from James France building on Friday 29 September from 12:30pm.

Separate arrangements will be made for international students.

Please note: You will not be fully enrolled at Loughborough University until you have completed the registration process and collected your student ID card.

Make a note of arrival week

Arrivals week will be taking place on;

Tuesday 26th September

Wednesday 27th September

Thursday 28th September

Campus Living will be in touch prior to your arrival and provide you with a specific arrival slot. Arrivals are staggered to ensure there is enough parking and assistance on standby to help you settle in.

If you have not been given an arrival slot, please contact Campus Living

Check and update your vaccinations

Students aged between 17 – 24 years are strongly recommended to have a MenACWY vaccination.

While you may have had a MenC vaccination when you were a young child, this immunity decreases over time. This, mixed with the fact that you will be meeting lots of new people increases the likelihood of contracting Meningitis and Septicaemia.

Register with student Medical Centre

Before you arrive, we recommend that you take the time to register with the Student Medical Centre. You can post* your fully completed form to:

The Medical Centre, Loughborough University, Ashby Road, Loughborough, Leics LE11 3TU or email* it to med.centre@lboro.ac.ukNew patients registered from 1st September 2017 – 31st March 2017 will be allocated Dr Gill as their named GP.  More information is available on our website www.lboroUniMedicalCentre.co.uk

We want to ensure that you have access to any necessary treatment if you should ever require it during your time here.

Once you arrive, you’ll quickly find that you have better things to do than to register for the medical centre – so make sure you do it before you get here.

*International students need to submit their form in person upon arrival at the University.

Support services

Before you arrive, make sure you know what support services are available to you during your time here.

If you ever need help or just someone to talk to; we’re here to help.

Support services include;

Reading lists

Before you arrive, your department will be in touch and issue a reading list so that you have all the appropriate reading material before your course starts.

Don’t worry if you can’t get all of the books, we have an extensive library with over 500,000 books – so we’re sure to have what you need.

For some courses, you might not be issued with a reading list.

Induction timetable

When you arrive, you will be invited to attend an induction talk by your department.

It will provide you with important information about the course, you’ll meet your fellow course mates and you’ll have the opportunity to meet key staff members and take a brief tour of the facilities.

Access your timetable

Once you have setup your IT account, you should be able to see your timetable.

We advise that you check your timetable every week. This will ensure that you don’t accidentally miss any of those all-important lectures or seminars.
