Halls of residence
All catered halls have a dining hall where you and your friends can enjoy your meals.
The meals are provided in a self-service style cafeteria and the menus are designed to meet the needs of our students.
The catering team are committed to providing menus which allows for choice, healthy options and promotes home cooked food. If you have a dietary requirement, just let us know and we will make sure you are catered for.
- One rasher of bacon, two sausages, one egg
- Self serve accompaniments and continental style options
- Two pieces of fresh fruit
- One cup of fresh juice/self serve hot beverage
Lunch and Dinner
- One served protein portion, meat and vegetarian options are available
- Or sub roll or sandwich
- Self serve potatoes and vegetables
- Self serve salad bar
- A dessert and one piece of fresh fruit (or no desert and two pieces of fresh fruit)
All meals come with a selection of self serve hot and cold drinks available from the dining hall. A finishing station of sauces seeds and fruits are there to compliment your meal.
For those with an early start or late finish a packed meal choice is available for you to order from your front of house team. Requests need be ordered before 1.30pm one day prior to your requirement. Your meal card is required upon collection.
We offer a take away option for hot food, handy for those on the go that still wish to have a hot meal that don't have time to eat in hall.
Your student ID serves also as your meal card, each day it is loaded with three meals for that day’s consumption and must be presented at each meal service, failure to do so may result in your meal being refused. This gives you added security into the halls.
To help with unnecessary queuing please have your diners card ready at meal times.
If you are unfortunate to damage or lose your card the dining hall will allow you up to 6 meals (two days) to get your card replaced. If after this period no card is produced then further meals may be refused.
A replacement card can be issued for an admin fee of £8.00 from the Card Office located in the Herbert Manzoni Building.
We understand the dangers to those with severe allergies. Some of our menu dishes may contain seeds, shellfish and other allergens. Menu cards giving allergenic information are displayed at the food service points the service team and chefs are also available to speak to they may be able to help you make an alternative choice.
All dishes are labelled with allergen information available on our website. If you have specific food requirements we advise you to contact the Chef and Hall manager who will be able to help you with your request.
We do not use nuts in our cooking but traces may be present in foods purchased for use within the dining halls.
In catered hall we are able to offer Halal meats as part of our food service. Halal meats are available from our approved suppliers and are certificated for identification.
When cooking we follow the same process for those with allergenic diets to minimise the chances of cross contamination. If you require a Halal diet please notify the kitchen 24 hours in advance of your meal.
Those observing Ramadan are asked to contact your Chef and Hall manager who will help with your specific meal requirements.
We are not able to offer a Kosher food service in our Dining Halls.
You are reminded you are dining in a public food service area and are asked to dress accordingly. Tops and bottoms must be worn - no swimwear or pyjamas. For personal safety reasons suitable footwear must be worn - no bare feet.
All dining halls are licensed under the licensing act of 2003 and strictly NO ALCOHOL is to be brought into the dining halls.
Special events such as High Tables are under special licence with the warden and should be booked with the Licensee and dining hall manager.
