Andrew Cotton is the Director of WEDC responsible for organisational policy and strategy, academic leadership, business development, and operational and financial management.

Andrew is a Public Health Engineer with thirty years international experience in water supply and sanitation in applied research, publication, teaching and consultancy. He has an international reputation with experience of working at global, regional, national and sub-national levels in water, sanitation and urban development. He provides policy and strategy support to bilateral and multi-lateral donors, governments and NGOs. In 2008, Andrew was the Specialist Adviser to the UK Parliament House of Commons Select Committee enquiry into Water and Sanitation and was Task Manager and lead author of the sanitation policy for the Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK Government. He was the lead author of the Africa EU Statement on Sanitation and regularly represents the UK government at international meetings and as an accredited member of UK delegations. From 2001-2007, he was the Director of the WELL Resource Centre in Water and Environmental Health for DFID, responsible for technical advice to the UK aid programme. Andrew is the author of over 80 technical papers, manuals and books.
