Research and expertise

I joined Loughborough University in 2023 as a Doctoral Researcher with the ‘Energy Resilience and the Built Environment’ (ERBE) CDT and the Building Energy Research Group (BERG). Research Project: Characterisation of the Hygrothermal Performance of 3D Printed Concrete Walls.

My core research interests surround the opportunities to design and retrofit homes for a net-zero carbon future. Transitioning to net zero carbon must also consider housing shortages, health and comfort concerns,  and the affordability of a net zero carbon future.

Previous research:

  • The sustainability of 3D Printed Concrete wall construction.
  • The energy performance and Part L compliance of 3D Printed Concrete walls.
  • Tracking the compliance and trends of 3D Printed Concrete buildings worldwide.
  • Design of a net-zero energy laboratory building in Cairo, Egypt.
  • Using a fabric-first design approach to optimise the energy consumption and comfort for a block of flats in London to meet the demands of a warming climate. Using Building Performance Simulation in IES-VE and Grasshopper.
  • Multi-objective optimisation workflow in Grasshopper-Honeybee for an office building in Leicester.
  • Daylight modelling and optimisation in Rhino-ClimateStudio for an office building in Leicester.

Specialisms:

  • Building Physics
  • Low energy building services
  • Domestic retrofit
  • Building Energy Modelling (IES-VE, EnergyPlus, Grasshopper Honeybee)
  • Daylight modelling (Climate Studio, Honeybee Radiance)
  • The application of 3D Concrete Printing for housing

Profile

I joined Loughborough University in 2023 as a Doctoral Researcher with the ‘Energy Resilience and the Built Environment’ (ERBE) CDT, and the Building Energy Research Group (BERG). Research project: Characterisation of the Hygrothermal Performance of 3D Printed Concrete Walls. I became the ERBE Social Media Manager in 2023.

I completed my BEng in Civil Engineering in 2022 with a dissertation focused on sustainability of 3D Printed Concrete wall construction. Later, I moved to an MSc in Low Energy Building Services Engineering in 2023 with a dissertation focused on the energy performance and Part L compliance of 3D Printed Concrete walls.

During my MSc and beyond, I engaged with my passion for low-energy buildings in multiple ways. I became a certified BREEAM associate. I joined ASHRAE as a student member and won the student presentation award at the ASHRAE UK Buildings Services Exhibition, 2023. I later led the Loughborough University team in the ASHRAE Net Zero Energy Challenge in 2023, to design a laboratory building in Cairo, coming first in the global entry.

I also engage in the 3D Concrete Printing community by working on data aggregation for Jarett Gross, a construction automation Journalist. I supported the committee of Digital Concrete 2022, a 3D Concrete Printing conference held at Loughborough University. I also attended the Introduction to 3D Construction Printing course by Harcourt Technologies Ltd.
