What we mean by global events
Global event is the term used to describe an event lasting a limited duration that have an international impact. Examples might include but are not limited to:
- War and conflict
- Natural disasters or catastrophic event
- Political unrest
- Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement
What support is available to you
The University has a range of different services to support you with any adverse personal or family circumstances. Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity and the University Counselling Service are available to all students and offers an opportunity to talk and reflect with a professionally trained person who is outside your immediate situation. Wellbeing Adviser or Personal Tutor will also be able to provide support. Alternatively, you can approach Loughborough Student’s Union Student Advice.
Should you submit a Mitigating Circumstances claim
If your assessment(s) have been affected by global events (either through direct experience or through family members associated with the regions of the world affected), then you should submit a Mitigating Circumstances (MC) claim.
What your Mitigating Circumstances claim for global events should include
- As much detail as possible on the global events including details of your experience and/or family members association.
- A full explanation outlining how your circumstance(s) has impacted your academic performance in your assessment(s).
- Which assessment(s) were impacted by the circumstances outlined in your claim by selecting the relevant components on the online form.
- You do not need to submit supporting evidence for these claims but please provide any evidence that might support the situation outlined in your claim.
