Connecting a mobile device

In order to get your mobile phone connected to the hallnet network, you first need to get the mac address from your mobile phone. The method of collecting this can vary depending on the mobile brand and operating system.

Please note that you will need to be connected to the VPN or on a university Wifi network to complete the following steps.



Find MAC address

First, you need to locate the MAC address from your mobile device;

iPhone: From the home screen, open 'Settings', select 'General' and select 'About'. Scroll down to Wi-Fi Address - this is your device's MAC address.

AndroidOpen the Settings menu, Scroll down and select About phone. Select Status (or Hardware information). Scroll down to Wi-Fi MAC address - this is your device's MAC address.


Go to Hallnet site

Once you have this information you can register your device on our

Scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Other Devices'.


Log in

Log in with your student credentials.


Add MAC address

Type in the MAC address and the device name into the boxes provided. Make a note of the 'PSK' information. This is the password you will need in step 7 to connect to hallnet.


Mobile Wi-Fi settings

Return to your mobile phone home screen, open 'Settings', and open your 'Wi-Fi' settings.


Hallnet network

Find the 'hallnet' network. Next, turn off the 'randomized mac address' function:

For Android users: open up additional settings for this network, (tap the cog next to the hallnet wifi network), press ‘Advanced’ and select ‘Phone MAC’.

For iPhone users: tap the ⓘ symbol and slide the private address button to the off position.


Connect to the hallnet network

To connect to the hallnet network use the 'PSK' against your device on the website as the password for this connection.
