Music Tuition: Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions apply to music tuition offered by LU Arts at Loughborough University. They are designed to provide clarity and consistency for tutees and tutors. By purchasing music tuition, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

1. About LU Arts music tuition
1.1 LU Arts offers one-to-one music tuition in a range of instruments and disciplines, subject to tutor availability.
1.2 Currently, tuition is available in guitar (acoustic, bass and electric), piano, singing and songwriting.
1.3 Tutees are responsible for providing the instrument and any personal equipment required for their lessons.
1.4 Tuition takes place in the music rooms in Martin Hall.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Music tuition is available to current Loughborough University students and staff, subject to tutor availability.
2.2 If a tutee’s student or staff status ends, tuition will cease immediately.
3. Booking and payment
3.1 Once a tutee has completed the music tuition enquiry form on the LU Arts website and a suitable lesson arrangement has been agreed with the relevant tutor, tuition hours can be purchased through the University’s online store. The tutor will share the payment link with the tutee.
3.2 First time bookings require a purchase of 8 hours. Subsequent top-ups can be purchased in blocks of 2 or 8 hours.
3.3 Lessons must be paid for in advance. Tutees will not be allowed to go into arrears.
3.4 Tutors and LU Arts may provide reminders about remaining tuition hours; however, it remains the participant's responsibility to keep track of their remaining tuition hours.
4. Subsidised tuition
4.1 Tuition is subsidised by LU Arts. If demand exceeds annual budget allocations, availability of tuition hours may be capped until the following academic year.
5. Purchase and use of tuition hours
5.1 Tuition hours must be used within the same academic year in which it is purchased. The year runs from 1 August – 31 July. Unused tuition hours will not be carried over or refunded.
5.2 Tutees are encouraged to plan their lessons with their tutor and ensure that sufficient time is available to use all purchased tuition hours.
5.3 Tuition hours will not be available to purchase during July. Any tuition hours scheduled for July, must be purchased by 30 June.
6. Lesson scheduling
6.1 Following the completion of the online enquiry form, the tutor will contact the potential tutee to discuss their requirements.
6.2 The tutor and tutee will agree a suitable lesson time, frequency and duration. This will be subject to tutor and room availability.
7. Accessibility and reasonable adjustments
7.1 LU Arts is committed to making its activities as accessible as reasonably possible.
7.2 If a tutee has any accessibility requirements that tutors should be aware of, which was not included in their enquiry form, then they should discuss this with the tutor during lesson scheduling.
8. Cancellations and non-attendance
8.1 If a tutee is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, they must notify their tutor as soon as possible.
8.2 It is expected that tutees only cancel lessons due to ill health, university timetabling changes or exceptional circumstances. Tutors have limited availability and cancellations have a significant impact on their teaching timetables.
8.3 Cancellations with more than 24 hours’ notice will be rescheduled at no additional cost to the tutee.
8.4 Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice or non-attendance on the day, will not be rescheduled. The lesson will be deducted from the tutee’s purchased tuition hours, except in proven exceptional circumstances.
8.5 Cancellations made by the tutor, LU Arts or the University will be rescheduled at no additional cost to the tutee.
9. Late arrivals
9.1 Where a tutee arrives late, the lesson will finish at the agreed time.
10. Discontinuing tuition
10.1 If a tutee wants to discontinue tuition, they should let their tutor know as soon as possible.
11. Suspension or Withdrawal of Tuition
11.1 LU Arts reserves the right to suspend or withdraw access to music tuition for repeated non-attendance, persistent late cancellation, inappropriate behaviour or a breach of relevant University policies or rules.
12. Refunds
12.1 Refunds can only be issued in the following circumstances:
12.1.1 Tuition has been cancelled by the tutor, LU Arts or the University.
12.1.2 The tutee has been unable to use their purchased hours by 31 July because of long-term or serious illness or other exceptional circumstances.
12.2 All refund requests must be made in writing to LU.Arts@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk by 1 July.
13. Changes to these Terms and Conditions
13.1 LU Arts may amend these Terms and Conditions where necessary and update this webpage accordingly.
13.3 Where changes are significant, LU Arts will email tutees to share updated Terms and Conditions.
