Microsoft Teams, Email and OneDrive

Outlook is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. This is your Loughborough University email account and will be used by your Department / School to contact you about important messages.

Microsoft 365 enables easy document storage and sharing across devices and browsers. For collaboration, create documents in the relevant MS Team rather than OneDrive to ensure the right people have access throughout the document’s lifecycle.

Some consideration might be:

• Will the document form part of a governance decision which needs to be referenced in the future?
• Is the document important to your school or department and access will be needed if you are away from the University?
• Will you be collaborating with several people who will want access as part of a project?

Files saved to your University OneDrive account are private until you share them.

IT Services provides technical access and security to the Microsoft Office 365 suite of products, including Microsoft SharePoint. SharePoint is a platform, and is used to build SharePoint sites.

IT Services does not have a service or training in supporting the development of SharePoint sites, not in supporting the effective use of the SharePoint platform in delivering functionality to these sites. This includes integration to and/or from SharePoint, data migration or software development using SharePoint sites.

IT Services can provide sign-posting to third parties who can undertake this type of work at a charge.

It is highly recommended that Group Workspace is no longer used for any new document requirements, and IT Services will be encouraging existing users to migrate to OneDrive and MS Teams over the next 18 months.
