FOUNDATION
Leslie Mustoe Prize
A Prize to the value of £100 for the student with the highest average mark in Part F. Leslie Mustoe was the Director of the Science and Engineering Foundation Programme at Loughborough University from 1991-2007. Les holds a PhD in Mathematical Education and has written eight textbooks on mathematics for engineering undergraduates. In 2000 he received the International Award of the Engineering Mathematics Group of ANZIAM for his work in the mathematical education of engineers. He has been elected to the Fellowship of the Guild of Educators and awarded the Fellowship of the European Society for Engineering Education.

A prize, to the value of £500, to be awarded annually to the final year student on one of the Department of Computer Science’s MSci programmes with the best academic performance as judged by the examination board.
J D White Memorial Prize A,B,C
Three prizes, each to the value of £200, may be awarded to BSc in Information Management and Computing students achieving the best performance in each of the three years of the programme in the view of the Programme Board.
John White was appointed as a lecturer at Loughborough University in 1974 as one of the founder members of the Department of Library and Information Studies. He had previously worked with scientific information for the Monsanto Company and the United Kingdom Chemical Information Service (UKCIS) and joined the Department on the strength of his known interest in the computerised retrieval of scientific information. Whilst he was a lecturer in the Department, John White developed this interest into a broader concern with the use of computers in library and information work. To this end, he and another colleague Fred Smith wrote their own library management software (a heroic enterprise on the almost unimaginably crude and slow machines then available) to simulate the operation of such systems for teaching purposes. So effective were these programs that colleagues were also able to use them for other purposes such as the handling of research data. John is remembered in the Department for his courageous fight against cancer, teaching the subjects to which he was so committed until shortly before his death in 1990.

Jonathan Heaton Prize
A prize to the value of £100 is awarded to the final year student who has made the best progress throughout his or her undergraduate career.
Jonathan Heaton (1965-1990) joined the Department of Physics in 1988 to work for his PhD in microlithography. He was an excellent student with an outstanding attitude to work, staff and students alike. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on 14 June 1990. In his memory, the Department established the Jonathan Heaton Prize.
