A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the student with the highest overall mark on each Part of each of the following undergraduate programmes:

School of Design and Creative Arts Postgraduate Prize for Academic Excellence

A prize to the value of £100 to be awarded to the student with the highest overall mark on each of the following postgraduate programmes:

  • MA User Experience and Service Design / MSc User Experience Design
  • MSc Ergonomics and Human Factors
  • MSc Integrated Industrial Design
  • MSc Graphic Design and Visualisation
  • MSc Storytelling / MA Theatre 

 

School of Design and Creative Arts Undergraduate Innovation Awards

This School run competition is an exciting enterprise initiative organised in partnership with leading industry contacts. Open to final year undergraduate students, the competition provides an opportunity to showcase the commercial potential of students’ final year projects. Industry contacts (usually three) view and critique the entries, to judge and award the following prizes:

  • £500 to the overall winner in each of the four disciplines
  • the accolade of the 'One to Watch' for runners up

in each of the four disciplines of Design, Graphics and Illustration, Fine Art and Textiles.

 

Rosy Chetwyn-Appleton Positive Impact Award

The School will make a donation to Loros on behalf of the student in Rosy's memory. The prize will be awarded to an SDCA finalist whose work emulates the positivity, passion and joy which Rosy delivered so effortlessly.

Creative Arts programmes

Diverse Voices in Textiles

A prize of the value of £500 to be awarded to a textile student who may have otherwise been under-represented within curriculums and the history of textiles. This award serves to recognise an individual textiles finalist who is Black, Asian or from another Ethnic Minority; someone who identifies with the LGBTQI+ community; a person living with a disability, or an individual textiles finalist who is tackling broader social and cultural contexts of the discipline through a critical approach to textiles practice.

Edward Sharp Prize

One or more purchase prizes to be awarded for a work or works of art or design by final year students selected from the Undergraduate Finalist Degree Show by a panel chaired by the Director of the School. The work purchased by the prize will become part of the University’s collection and be displayed around the University campus as agreed with the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Edward Sharp was a former principal of Loughborough College of Art and Design and set up a fund to assist the College’s students on his retirement.

John Mack Award (Foundation)

John Mack was the Foundation technician who excelled in covering all the topics, administrating advice on technical issues that were broad and expansive, and his knowledge was second to none. His goal was for all students to grow, mature in the skills he gave to them, making them feel confident to tackle new ground and explore the edge of their perceived capacity with relentless care. He shaped studentship. John sadly passed away in 2010 and this prize recognizes his contribution to the School and to the many students he helped move into careers in the creative industries. This award highlights those students who have shown tenacity to push boundaries and excel in their chosen field.

Leicester Print Workshop Award

A voucher to be awarded by Leicester Print Workshop to graduating Fine Art students involved in printwork.

Potclays Award

Potclays Limited established in 1932, Potclays has grown to be a leading award winning provider of ceramic supplies and training. Each year they offer a £50 materials voucher plus digital marketing support to be awarded to a graduating student who is likely to take their ceramic practice forward into their future career.  They hope that the award will provide encouragement when it is needed most, and that the exposure we can offer through our extensive social media and mailing list networks will boost awareness and interest in the winner’s ceramic practice and future plans.

Printmakers Council Award

Each year the Printmakers Council makes awards to Graduates at various Universities. Loughborough University has been selected to make the award for a student who has shown a particular skill in the print making techniques. The award is a years’ membership for the Printmakers Council which includes presence on their website which could lead to further opportunities in this field.

Stanley Evernden Memorial Prize (running until 2022/23)

A prize of £750 to help fund an outstanding production by students of the School. Stanley Evernden is recognised as the founder of undergraduate drama at Loughborough and the Fund, set up in his memory, will provide financial support to students taking their productions to festivals and events around the UK. Showcasing their talent in this way will help them develop their performance skills and above all, ensure that Stanley will continue to inspire future generations of drama practitioners and professionals.

Yanina Temple Colour Award (Foundation)

A prize to the value of £50 per Foundation pathway winner, to students who have shown outstanding development, sensitivity, combinations and impact with the use of colour. Yanina was a Foundation tutor specialising in Textiles and Fashion who worked on Foundation for 30 years. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the mixing, exploration and use of colour. She never wore black and loved colour in all its forms. She retired in September 2020 and her colourful energy is very much missed in our studios.
