Murray Chapman Prize

A prize to the value of £250 awarded annually to the undergraduate finalist in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil engineering who has made the most significant improvement in their performance, in terms of their penultimate year and final year average marks, in the view of the programme board.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Certificate of Excellence (UG)

A prize to the value of a £50 Amazon voucher to the student on each of the school’s CIOB accredited degrees with the highest mark in their degree. The winner must also be at least a student member of the CIOB. Eligible programmes are BSc Architectural Engineering and Design Management and BSc Construction Engineering Management.

Cult Pens Award

A prize of £50 for the Part C Student with the best 'Detail Presentation Poster’ in CVC036.

Best Fire Safety Strategy, Sponsored by Pyrology

A prize of a £60 voucher and book for each member of the team of students (up to 5) who produce the fire safety strategy for their design proposal judged to be the most comprehensive and appropriate.

Bechtel Prize

A prize to the value of £250 awarded annually to the student with the highest degree mark from the graduating BEng and MEng Civil Engineering Cohort in the view of the relevant programme board. The prize will be awarded to a BEng student in even years and an MEng student in odd years.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Student Prize 

A Certificate of Merit and prize to the value of £250 is awarded annually to the Civil Engineering student adjudged by the programme board as having the best performance in his/her penultimate and final years, not solely on examination performance but also with regard to coursework, particularly civil engineering design which includes, but is not exclusive to, structural design. The winning student must be a member of ICE. The prize will be awarded to a BEng student in odd years and an MEng student in even years.

The PWI Prize for Railway Engineering

A prize of a certificate and textbook for the best performing Part C student in the module Transport Infrastructure Engineering, funded by the PWI, The Institution for Rail Infrastructure Engineering. From 2023/24 the prize winner will need to be a student member of the PWI.

A prize to the value of £50 to the Distance Learning Postgraduate students with the highest mark in each of the following programmes:

ASHRAE UK Chapter: Rising Star in Building Services Engineering

Three prizes of £100 each to be awarded to the students in MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering who demonstrate the greatest effort as decided by a panel within the school.

Energy Institute Prize

A prize to the value of £100, and a one-year affiliate membership of the Energy Institute to be awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark for their research project in CVP313.

Vexo International: Rising Star in Building Services Engineering

Four prizes of £125 each to be awarded to the students on MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering who are deemed by a panel to have produced the most challenging piece of research relating to building energy.

AECOM Building Services Engineering Prize

A prize to the value of £300 to be awarded annually to the graduating student with the best overall performance on the MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering programme in the view of the programme board.

Hays Construction and Property Prize

A prize to the value of £100 is awarded to the student with the best overall performance on the design project by a student on the MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering programme.

Pick Everard Prize

A prize to the value of £300, to be awarded to the student on the MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering programme with the highest overall mark for his/her research project. In the event of two students obtaining equal marks Pick Everard will be involved in the selecting the recipient of the prize.

Hilson Moran Low Energy Design Prize

A prize to the value of £200 awarded to the student on the MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering programme who achieves the highest mark for their design work in module CVP308 Concept Design with 3D Building Information Modelling.

A prize to the value of £100 to the Part A student who creates the Project judged ‘Most Visionary’ by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Year One: Best Home Project

A prize to the value of £100 to the Part A student who creates the Home Project, including the highest quality 3D visualization and most comprehensive response to questioning, judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Year One: Student Performance of the Year

A prize to the value of £200 to the Part A student who demonstrates the best performance across work presented at the end-of-year show, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Hand Drawing (Non-finalist)

A prize to the value of £100 to the Part A or Part B student who creates the Best Hand Drawing within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Contextual Response

A prize to the value of £250 to the Part B student who creates the Best Contextual Response as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Team Project

A prize to the value of £300 (total) to the Part B students on the team who collaborate to product the Best Team Project, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Most Sustainable Design

A prize to the value of £150 to the Part B student who creates the Most Sustainable Design within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Year Two: Best 3D Visualisation

A prize to the value of £200 to the Part B student who creates the Home Project, including the highest quality 3D visualization and most comprehensive response to questioning, judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Hand Drawing (Non-finalist)

A prize to the value of £100 to the Part A or Part B student who creates the Best Hand Drawing within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Historic Intervention

A prize to the value of £250 to the part C student who creates the Best Historic Intervention within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Best Overall Graduating Project

A prize to the value of £250 to the part C student who creates the Best Overall Graduating Project, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Diversity and Inclusivity Prize

A prize to the value of £350 to the part C student who creates the most diverse and inclusive final year project, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Innovating Tradition (Finalist) Prize

A prize to the value of £300 to the part C student who best meets the brief of the ‘Innovating Tradition’ within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts from a shortlist of the best performing students in the design project module during the end-of-year show.

Materiality and Atmosphere Prize

A prize to the value of £150 to the part C student who best demonstrates Materiality and Atmosphere in their project design, as judged by a panel of industry experts from a shortlist of the best performing students in the design project module during the end-of-year show.

Most Innovative Project

A prize to the value of £250 to the part C student with the most innovative project based on a) architectural design b) role of the architect c) software skills and d) future vision, narrative and the most comprehensive response to questions following a presentation, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Outstanding Design Concept

A prize to the value of £100 to the part C student who presents the most Outstanding Design Concept within their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

President's Prize

A prize to the value of £100 to the part C student who performs best in their final design project for the best project, narrative and response to questions following presentations, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

The CLEAN Award

A prize to the value of £300 to the part C student whose final year project is 'CLEAN' (their design being Crafted, Lean, Elegant, Appropriate and has a strong Narrative), as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Enhancing Lives By Design

A prize to the value of £200 to the part C student whose project demonstrates how the design of their architectural proposition can enhance the lives of the intended users through space, use and environmental considerations, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

People and Planet (Sustainability)

A prize to the value of £150 to the part C student with the most sustainable design in their final year design project, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Unsung Hero

A prize to the value of £250 to a part C nominated and voted for by their cohort celebrating those individuals who have contributed towards a positive studio culture and supported their peers.

 

Architecture MArch Prizes

ABCE School Top Student Prizes

A prize to the value of £50 to the students on MArch Architecture with the highest Part mark. There is one award for the highest mark in Part M1, and another award for the student in Part M2 with the highest overall degree mark.

Innovative Design Research

A prize to the value of £250 to the MArch student who has undertaken the most Innovative Design Research as part of their displayed work, as judged by a panel of industry experts during the end-of-year show.

Ecology and Landscape

A prize to the value of £250 to the MArch student whose project demonstrates the understanding and inclusion of environmental design, as judged by a panel of experts at the end of year show.
