Windows 11
Microsoft OS
About the upgrade
Upgrade for university-managed devices and campus computers.
Microsoft Windows 11 is the new and improved operating system that will be rolled out to university-managed laptops and desktops, including computer labs, from November 2024 onwards.
Windows 10 has been in operation on the Staff Desktop Service for 10 years and is being replaced by the latest Microsoft operating system – Windows 11. Windows 10 support will officially end on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical assistance for Windows 10.
Staff are encouraged to book an upgrade over the coming months to ensure they are not adversely affected by this change and can continue to access University services and data past the 14 October.
Upgrading to the Windows 11 version will ensure users are supported with the latest features, security, and functionality to support collaborations, teaching and learning.
Key benefits:
- New interface – simple design and use
- Improved performance - login experience, better MS Teams integration
- Improved productivity - software request and management processes
- Enhanced security – including encryption for both desktops & laptops, essential for protecting University sensitive data
- Accessibility – new accessibility features
