Windows 11 service: Notice of removal of the default Copilot app (AI tool)

Managed Desktop Service

On the Desktop Managed Service, Windows 11 currently offers access to two versions of the AI-powered (Artificial Intelligence) chat tools: Windows Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot

Removal of default app

The default Windows Copilot app does not comply with enterprise data protection requirements, and as of April has stopped allowing sign-ins with work or school accounts.

IT Services will be removing access to the default app on Monday, 09 June. If you currently access this app on your Desktop Managed Service device, please save any chat history you’d like to keep and ensure you're signed out before the service is removed.

University-approved access

Copilot will remain available to all users on the Windows 11 Managed Desktop Service via your University Microsoft account, using the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (also available in Teams) and Microsoft Edge

Both above provide enterprise data protection.

Look for the green shield icon at the top of the chat to confirm you are using the approved version.
