Parents and Guardians

We know that sending your child to university is a big moment, and it’s completely natural to have questions and want reassurance.

Our accommodation team is here to help make the transition as smooth as possible, offering a safe and supportive environment where your child can settle in and feel at home.

This short video captures the thoughts of parents and guardians as they reflect on their child’s experience living in Loughborough’s accommodation. Filmed during a recent graduation ceremony, these interviews offer genuine insight and reassurance about the supportive environment we provide, helping students settle in, feel at home, and thrive during their time here.

What support is available for students?

We know peace of mind is important. That’s why we have a strong support network in place across all of our halls. This includes:

  • Hall Wardens and Sub-Wardens who live on site
  • Hall managers and hall reception teams
  • Our friendly Accommodation team, available year-round
  • 24/7 campus security
  • Student Services and Wellbeing teams for additional support

You can find more detail on these services on our Support Services page.

Support in halls

International students are guaranteed on-campus accommodation for any two years of their studies, providing peace of mind for you and your child.

Nominated contacts

We recommend students add a nominated contact, like a parent or guardian, as we can’t discuss accommodation matters with anyone not listed - even in urgent cases.

It only takes a few minutes to set up (see guidance below).

Your questions answered

Is my child guaranteed a room in halls?

If your child has put Loughborough as their firm choice and registers their accommodation account before the deadline, then they will be guaranteed a place in halls. You can read more about our application process in our step-by-step guide.

Can I apply for accommodation on my child’s behalf?

Yes, you can - but please see the nominated contact guidance above before doing so.

How much does accommodation cost, and what does it include?

Accommodation prices vary depending on the hall and room type you choose. You can view the full list of room options and associated costs by visiting our Hall fees and legal information page.

All rooms come fully furnished with essentials such as a bed, study desk and chair, storage, and more, providing a comfortable and practical space to live and learn.

What if my child wants to change rooms later?

There is a transfer request process that allows students to apply to move if spaces become available after arrival. Moves during the Summer Term will only be considered under special circumstances; therefore, we are no longer accepting requests to transfer accommodation. If you have an urgent request, please speak to your Hall warden and the Student Accommodation Centre. For further information, please see: Transfer request form.

Are there mixed-gender flats and same-gender options?

Yes – students can indicate a preference for same-gender accommodation during the application process, but this is not a guarantee.

What does the booking process look like?

Booking is done through a live system, so availability can change quickly as other students make their choices. To help guide you and your child through the process, please see our step-by-step guide, which includes a helpful video on how to book your accommodation.

Can I visit my child?

Yes - there are four University-owned hotels on or very close to campus, offering short-stay visitors affordable and convenient accommodation. We recommend that you do not stay in your child’s room, as most University accommodation is single occupancy. For more information, please see University Hotels.

What if my child has a physical or mental health condition that affects their accommodation?

The Student Accommodation Centre offers a range of room adjustments to support students with long-term physical or mental health conditions, ensuring they have the right environment to succeed at Loughborough University.

Will my child need to share a bathroom?

At Loughborough University, our en-suite rooms are very popular and get booked up quickly. Because of this, you may want to consider the benefits of sharing a bathroom.
