Summary of project activities and outcomes:

The project contributed to governance reforms in the Philippines through capacity development of local government units in urban water governance and ensuring environmental sustainability of cities. It was focused on six pilot cities across the Philippines: Balanga, Batangas, Calbayog, Roxas, Surigao, Samai. Activities by WEDC included:

  • Leading the work on knowledge transfer, training of trainers
  • Research study on Best Practices of Integrated Urban Water Resources Management
  • Hosting partners’ meeting at Loughborough (including mayors of pilot cities) and facilitating discussion on water sector situation in the six pilot cities and capacity development on integrated urban water resources management
  • Conducting course designing workshop in the Philippines
  • Supporting the six participating cities in piloting the course
  • Training of trainers in the Philippines for extending the course to other cities
