Summary of project activities and outcomes:
The project design and development of the $100 million China Western Provinces Rural WASH project covered the following components: water supply, hygiene, institutional development, water resources, economic analysis social development and M&E, with each member of WEDC staff or consultants taking responsibility for one or more components. The contributors to the overall project funding were DfID, World Bank and UNICEF. Through extensive consultations with Government and other stakeholders, as well as field visits in Shaanxi and Sichuan Provinces, the design of the project components were satisfactorily completed and the project was subsequently implemented.
