You need to study something that you really love to do. Then just insist on doing it. Now I'm a postgraduate student, I must find a certain direction in my subject, like AI, or network security.

What were you doing before you joined Loughborough?

I studied in China as an undergraduate student.

Why did you choose Loughborough University?

I really love the life in small town, which is quite peaceful.

How did you fund your studies?

I was funded by the Chinese government in 2015 when I was an undergraduate student. (I studied in Loughborough University as an exchange student in 2015.) And I received a 25% discount of the postgraduate tuition fee in 2016.

What do you enjoy the most about your programme?

The lab. The computer science school provides really nice devices and computers to support our studies.

Describe what it is like to be a postgraduate, and how this differs from undergraduate studies?

When I was an undergraduate student, I need to focus on the “scope” of my studies. For example, to learn about computer science, I needed to learn the knowledge of hardware devices, software programming, controlling, circuitry, networks, etc. However, when I become a postgraduate student, I must find a certain “direction”, like AI, or network security.

Describe a day in the life of a postgraduate student?

In the morning, I will have lectures. In the afternoon, I will do the practical part, like labs. In the evenings, I will do some sports, like swimming or running (you know, Loughborough has really good facilities). Sometimes, I will do some job hunting through the Loughborough careers network. My daily life is simple!

How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?

I really love swimming. Sometimes I will do some volunteer jobs in the student union activities. I love travelling, I will go to other European countries during the holiday (when the ticket is cheap).

Why did you decide to study?

I was studying hardware when I was an undergraduate student. I want to learn more programming skills. Another thing is I found I am quite interested in artificial intelligence (I saw the TV series WestWorld).

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would like to find a job in an internet company, like doing IT consulting, cause I love communication with the customers. Maybe I will try to find an internship in London firstly.

If you could give one piece of advice to a future student, what would it be?

You need to study something that you really love to do. Then just insist on doing it.
