Low income families

We believe that higher education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of financial background.

Loughborough University is a welcoming and inclusive place, thanks to the growing understanding and respect our students have for each other.

We're determined to increase participation in higher education by students from low income families. There is a wide range of financial support options available, making it ever more possible for students to continue their education and gain independence.

Matt's story

After growing up in an industrial town Matt was determined to continue his studies through to Higher Education and make the most of the opportunities that university could offer to him.

We work as part of a consortium of Higher Education institutions and Further Education providers through the REACH partnership, offering information sessions and events to Leicestershire schools. The partnership also provides helpful resources to families, carers or guardians.

In addition, Loughborough University is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) via Pathways East Midlands. Through this programme, we offer intensive and tailored activities to further support students from Leicestershire and the surrounding counties that have the ability to progress but may be in an area where progression to university is traditionally low.

Our School and College Liaison team organise taster lectures, workshops and seminars to help students explore potential degree courses and career routes. The team can also offer students the opportunity to receive dedicated support with UCAS applications and personal statements.

For more details, please see the School and College Liaison website. More information and signposts to funding can be found on the UCAS website and student finance pages of the UK Government website.
