Students with parenting responsibilities
We recognise how hard it is for parents and guardians to balance everything and studying alongside parenting is demanding. We would like to extend a welcome to you and your family and the University offers support to help you with your studies, manage your commitments and support your wellbeing.
UCAS Applications
For students applying to start their course in 2023, UCAS has introduced a section in the application so you can share more information about your circumstances with the university or college – including whether you have parenting responsibilities. This information means the university or college will be able to connect you to the right support for your needs quickly and easily and ensure you have all the information you need.
Financial support
If you’re a full-time higher education student with dependent children, you may be able to get extra financial support to help with childcare costs' and costs related to your course.
On-campus nursery
There is a registered day nursery on campus which is consistently rated by Ofsted as ‘Good’.
Places at the on-campus nursery are highly sought after, so early enquiries are recommended. You can apply for a nursery place before your course has been confirmed and you are under no obligation to take up a place if your plans change (one month’s notice of cancellation is required). Other local nurseries are also available.
