Our Senior Leader Apprenticeship - Strategic Leadership pathway contributes to the development of strategic-level talent for organisations and individual employees, all funded through your organisation’s Apprenticeship Levy.

Our Senior Leader Apprentices report that they have been able to design, update and improve core strategic processes in their organisation, as a result of learning with us.

Our part-time programme is designed for you, as an experienced senior and/or middle manager, to combine working full-time at your current workplace with studying part-time.

All those on the programme have specific experience, from various functions and sectors, and join us in order to develop a greater strategic perspective, both theoretically and practically. As a result, you will learn and share current practice and insights with peers at your own level, often building long-lasting business networks.

After successful completion of the two-year programme and an End Point Assessment, you will receive two awards: a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership and Senior Leader Level 7. You then have the option to continue onto the third year to complete the MSc in Strategic Leadership.

Benefits for Employers

Several employers report on the value of our programme for development of their current and future talent. Some organisations also expect from the outset to be able to make practical use of work completed by their Apprentices, and have had good results. Tangible benefits from an organisational perspective have included:

  • Current and future leaders with a more strategic view across the organisation
  • Input on improving organisational processes such as change management, governance, marketing and information management
  • Rigorous evaluation of ethical approaches to leadership
  • Application of value-based decision-making

The programme stretches Apprentices’ strategic thinking, critical analysis and astute, practically-focused evaluation of current practice and future options. Those who successfully complete their programme will be able to apply leadership and strategic theory within your organisation, adapt to new scenarios and implement effective solutions.

Our specialist in Workplace Learning, along with experienced academic and administrative teams, support the Apprentice throughout their learning.  In addition, each Apprentice is allocated an Academic Mentor from Loughborough, along with a Work-Based Mentor, to be chosen by you. Support for your Work-Based Mentor(s) is available throughout the programme, principally from our Workplace Learning specialist.

The Senior Leader Apprenticeship, MSc in Strategic Leadership has been a fantastic opportunity to consolidate and formalise my career experience. It has enabled me to broaden and raise my understanding of business and organisational contexts in aspects I wouldn’t have easily accessed in my work role. It has also opened the door to wider internal and external networks and given me the confidence, skills and opportunities to challenge and contribute within my own organisation, and that of my clients, in a more informed and strategic way.
