Walking and running

Walking is one of the simplest and cheapest ways to keep fit. There is no need for special equipment, just a supportive pair of shoes and you can start walking slowly and build up gradually.

Walking can

• Make you feel good
• Give you more energy
• Reduce stress and help you sleep better
• Keep your heart 'strong' and reduce blood pressure
• Help to manage your weight

Staying safe

• Wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight at night and walk on paths separated from traffic whenever possible.
• At intersections, make sure drivers acknowledge you before entering the crosswalk. Watch for tripping hazards, traffic, suspicious persons.
• Don't wear headphones.
• Carry a mobile phone.

Campus walks

As part of the Centenary celebrations, campus walking route maps have been created. They include interesting facts about the campus and sites to look out for on your way.

The routes are 30-40 minutes long, which is ideal for lunchtime, or you can join them together if you want a longer walk.
