Improvements to LEARN for the 2025/6 academic year

Introducing improvements and new features

There is a new look to Learn for the 2025/6 academic year, alongside a host of new features to improve the way that Learn works for students and staff. Learn’s new module layout introduces some new features and changes some of the existing features to make them more accessible and give the site a cleaner look and feel, based on feedback received from students and staff.

Modules section

Module section titles are now displayed vertically in an accordion format, and can be expanded or collapsed as needed. Each section will start off in a collapsed state, which means that only the titles will be shown, avoiding the sometimes overwhelming experience of having to scroll through module content to reach what you need. Learn will remember which sections you have left open or closed between visits. Alongside this, there is a new module index on the left hand side for improved navigation. The index lets you see the module structure at a glance.

ReVIEW

A more prominent and visual ReVIEW section for lecture recordings has also been introduced. Student feedback highlighted how important the ReVIEW block was, so it's been redesigned to appear in the main module area underneath the module banner. In addition, this section has also been updated so that it will display the thumbnails and titles of the three latest recordings first, with the ability to scroll to view older recordings.

Menus

The menus in Learn have also been grouped under specific areas to make it easier and quicker to find the information most relevant to staff and students. The profile menu now contains links to email, timetable information, Learn archives and additional role specific information such as personal tutor contact details and programme information for students. The updated links menu at the top of Learn is now tailored to display only links relevant to you.

My Modules page

Enhancements have also been made to the My Modules page. These include the ability to filter modules by semester, alongside a new accessibility icon to allow you to set your theme and font sizes, and a unique width picker. The new set of buttons in the top-right corner of Learn let you change the width of the main content area to 3 options (narrow, default, and full width). Full width is designed to give more space to view large tables and other documents, whilst the narrow option is designed to make reading easier by minimising the amount of scanning across the screen needed.
