Google Chrome browser (computer version) – urgent manual update required

Version update notice

The University has been alerted to a high-risk vulnerability in the Chrome browser. This vulnerability affects Chrome installed on Windows, Mac or Linux platforms.

Action required

Please check the version of Chrome where it’s installed and update to the latest version if needed. This update only applies to computer versions (Windows, Mac or Linux platforms).

We strongly encourage you to check your personal devices as well as Windows Staff Managed devices, but please note that IT Services can only support university managed devices.

Instructions for updating Chrome are available on the Google support site: How to update Google Chrome

Although web browsers should auto update regularly, the roll out is often staggered over a period of a few weeks and so to ensure you are using the latest version, we recommend you do a manual update check at least once a week. You should also close and re-open browsers to allow any updates to take effect in this time frame.

Note: Whilst chrome is available, Microsoft Edge is the default, supported and recommended browser.
