Schofield Sub Station 21 - Replacement Transformer - Schofield (005) & Haslegrave (013) - 15 April - mid July 2024

Posted: 15 April 2024

Description of the works

The existing transformer and cables feeding the Haslegrave Building are 60 years old and beyond life expectancy.  In order to give resilience to the Universitys high voltage network, and to ensure a stable power supply to the Haslegrave Building, this work must be undertaken.

New cables will be installed between Schofield Building (adjacent University Road) and Haslegrave Building Generator House, located in the back right corner of the Haslegrave upper car park.  New trenching will be required for the cables to run in.  The first phase of the trenching will start on 15 April 2024 which will be across the Haslegrave car park, which will be closed until early July once the new supply has been connected.  Although there will be a short period when disabled access into Haslegrave from the top car park will not be available once the trench has been dug, a metal plate will be laid above it to allow access to the ramp.

There will also be a small area outside of the Schofield Sub Station (21) which will be fenced off but will not affect personnel on foot until the second phase of trenching starts.

Date for the second phase of trenching has yet to be agreed but will result in the lower section of University Road being closed from the T-Junction up to the opening for Wavy Top Car Park, which will be open for use by Staff and Visitors.  All traffic will be diverted around campus during this period.

Timescale
