Sports Grounds
The University has a reputation for sporting excellence and achievement stretching back over 50 years and the Sports Grounds team play a key role in providing and maintaining the facilities to keep the University at the forefront of world sport. We are proud of our unbeaten record of winning the BUCS competition (British Universities and Colleges Sport) consecutively for the last 39 years.
We provide operational delivery for high-profile events involving both students and external elite athletes; including Women’s Super League cricket matches, LIA and LEAP International Athletics meetings, University rugby union matches at National League 1 level, the School Games multi-sport event and a range of football matches up to European U17 level. There is an extensive all year-round schedule of training, matches, events and recreational sport. Therefore, the pitches/grounds must be maintained at an elite level.
In addition to maintaining the sports grounds we carry out a programme of pitch innovative developments working with sporting governing bodies, equipment and chemical suppliers to improve facility quality and durability.
