International Guarantee - return to the same hall
International students are guaranteed accommodation in their first year when choosing Loughborough as their firm choice, and can then return to the same hall for one more year under the International Guarantee.
The International Guarantee gives international students the peace of mind of returning to the same hall for one additional year of study at Loughborough University. Enjoy secure, on-campus accommodation and avoid the stress of finding somewhere new off campus.
With the guarantee, there’s no deposit and no guarantor required, making the process simple and straightforward. Focus on your studies and your community, knowing your accommodation is taken care of for the year ahead.

- The guarantee can only be used once, so it is ideal for students returning from placement or continuing into their final year.
How it works:
Tick the International Guarantee box
- When reapplying to return to halls, international students must tick the box labeled “Use International Guarantee”.
- This confirms that you want to return to the same hall.
- Note: The International Guarantee can only be used once during your time at Loughborough University. This doesn’t stop you from applying to live in halls again in future years - it just means that for any year you don’t use the guarantee, returning to halls is not guaranteed.
Confirmation
- Once your application is submitted with the box ticked, your place in the same hall is secured for that year.
- You will receive your room offer from March, giving you plenty of time to plan your return to halls.
- Some international students don’t travel home over the summer. To help with this, summer accommodation is available to bridge the gap between contracts, as you won’t be able to stay in your term-time room during this period.
Can I change halls if I want to?
You can apply to return to a different hall, but the guarantee applies specifically to the hall you stayed in previously. You are more likely to be accepted back into the hall you are already in.
Do I need to pay a deposit or provide a guarantor?
No, neither is required under the International Guarantee.
Can postgraduate students use the International Guarantee?
No, the guarantee is only available to undergraduate international students. Please see our postgraduate accommodation information page for further information regarding this.
What happens if I forget to tick the “Use International Guarantee” box?
If you don’t tick the box, you can still apply to live in halls, but your place in the same hall won’t be guaranteed.
Can I share with my friends again?
You can list your friends’ names on your application, and they’ll need to include your name on theirs too. We’ll do our best to accommodate these requests, but please note that specific room allocations (room number, block etc) and friend requests can’t be guaranteed.
What happens if I go on a placement?
If you need to cancel your accommodation because you’re going on placement, you will need to submit a cancellation request. Your International Guarantee will be voided for that year, but you’ll be able to use it again once you return to continue your studies at Loughborough.
Do I need to reapply every year?
Yes - even if you’re using the guarantee, you’ll need to submit a new application when applications open.
What if I miss the application deadline?
We do need to stick to deadlines, so if you miss it, you’ll need to arrange off-campus accommodation for that year. Don’t worry - you can still use your International Guarantee next year if you haven’t already used it, so you’ll still have the chance to return to the same hall.
