Accommodation options for returning students

Useful information and advice about your accommodation options for your next year of study at Loughborough University.

Whether you would prefer to return to live in university halls or live in private accommodation off campus, we’ll guide you through the process to make sure you are aware of all your options.

Where will you live next year?

Watch the following video for advice from your hall committees and the Student Accommodation Centre. We cover your accommodation options for next year, giving you an overview of the benefits of halls, where to find accommodation in town and a summary of the things you should consider before deciding where to live.

Return to halls?

Continue the Loughborough Experience in Halls. You can apply to stay with us throughout your studies at Loughborough. If you want to apply to return to halls, applications are open from 10:00 on Thursday 9 November 2023 until 14:00 on Friday 16 February 2024 (please note this is not applicable to current Art & Design Foundation course students).

Many agents in town are targeting students to sign up now. Do not feel pressured into making a rushed decision, there are risks associated with signing up early.

Benefits to returning to halls

If you haven't lived in halls this year, you may be wondering what a typical year in halls is really like. From hall sports events to themed socials and everything in between, there is so much about life in halls that you have yet to experience.

Our hall committee teams are already making plans to show new and returning students what the Loughborough student experience is really like in halls. There are lots of other benefits to returning to halls too, such as:

  • Unlimited access to hall social events and activities
  • Utility bills included
  • No deposit required
  • Hassle-free repairs and maintenance
  • Unlimited University internet access
  • Insurance included
  • 24 hour on-campus support
  • 24 hour on-campus security
  • Catered hall options available
  • 39 and 41 week let options
  • No hidden payments
  • Convenient location

Living in private accommodation

Before you begin your property hunt, we recommend checking out SASS’s online guidance and checklists.

Take time to consider all your options and don’t just take the first property you view. Think about what are your requirements as a group and as individuals in areas such as cost and location.

Once you find somewhere you are interested in renting for next year, remember that you can get the contract checked by SASS before you sign or pay any money.

Always read any draft contract carefully. It’s important to remember that once you have made the commitment to private accommodation by agreeing to a contract, it is virtually impossible to change your mind. The agreement you sign will be legally binding and you will likely be committed to paying for the duration of the contract even if you choose to take a break from study or leave University.

The Student Advice & Support (SASS) provides advice and support through your private rental experience from your search, to moving in, throughout the duration of your tenancy and the conclusion of your agreement SASS can give advice at any of these stages if you are experiencing problems so don’t hesitate to contact them.
