Elvyn Richards

I felt so at home living in halls that it simply felt right returning to halls for my second year. Where you live significantly influences your university experience, and I think without Elvyn Richards I would have felt like I was breathing underwater.

The hall culture and location are easily the best things about living on campus, and made the choice to return to halls easy. I have met people from my flat and the hall committee that I’m simply blessed to know and that I would never had known if I had not chosen Elvyn Richards as my hall over the last two years. This is especially true of living in catered halls, as you will meet more people in your halls at meal times, which has helped to build a really fun and friendly community.

Living on campus has allowed me to make the most out of my student experience as living in the heart of the university means you can get involved with everything. Socially, halls are just perfect. When everyone lives on campus, it is just so easy to go to each other’s rooms to have film nights, game nights or just chat and study together! This is what certainly makes you closer to your friends, because you are so close and share so many moments with each other.

My favourite memory is when it snowed late at night on campus. My friends and I were up late watching movies but went outside when we saw the snow and it was truly joyous to see that everyone was outside as well. People were throwing snowballs at each other and running around on the grass like children, you could never have seen a more beautiful community of friends laughing so hard together under the falling snow. That is definitely the moment that I felt sorry for everyone not living in halls.

Living in halls also benefits me academically as I am just minutes away from my lectures and I spend so much time researching at the library, so it’s wonderful that it is so close to my bedroom!

Our amazing hall Warden has also made my life easier time and time again, supporting me whenever I needed her. Having a hall warden has felt like a wonderful parental figure for us, as we know we can trust her and that she will be there for us no matter what. She has helped every single one of us living in halls and has always been understanding and honest with us.

I have felt at home in my halls from the minute I arrived and now I’m hall chair I’m determined to make it feel like home for everyone else here too.
