Loughborough London Students

LU Arts can help you get involved in the arts and do something creative outside of your studies.

About LU Arts

We are Loughborough University's extra-curricular arts programme. We provide opportunities for students and staff to enjoy the arts and get creative in your spare time. Our events and opportunities help you learn new skills, meet new friends, and can help support your wellbeing.

If you are interested in developing your own arts event in London, then get in touch with us to find out how we could help make it happen. Email LU.Arts@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk

Events

Our varied events programme includes some online events such as artist talks, discussions and special screenings. Details of any forthcoming events can be found on the Loughborough London events page as well as our website; most are free, although booking may be required.

Creative opportunities

We offer student opportunities to help you gain skills and experience, earn money and showcase your talents. These might include paid work, art commissions and competitions.

The local area

In addition to any events or opportunities that we offer, you'll find that East London is well served for arts venue and organisations. We've produced an arts map and guide to help you make the most of the cultural opportunities on your doorstep. Printed copies are available from reception and handed out during induction week. See below for further information.

Pop-up Maker Space

Take a break and get creative at our free lunchtime drop-ins for students and staff at the London campus!

Join us at our regular Pop-up Maker Space sessions, with quick and simple creative activities suitable for all.  Everyone knows that it’s good to take a break from your desk or screens for a short while, and doing something creative can be great for your wellbeing. Whether you’ve got 15mins or an hour, there’s something you can make or do in the time you have.

Each Pop-up session has a different focus, which is self-led with simple instructions to follow if needed. A student ambassador will be on hand to welcome you and chat!

These regular sessions take place on the second Tuesday of each 4-week teaching block. Visit our 'What's on' page for details of upcoming sessions and keep an eye out for posters around the London campus.

Dates for autumn term 2026:

  • Tuesday 6 October, 12-2pm
  • Tuesday 3 November, 12-2pm

London Arts Map

We’ve created a London Arts Map to help you discover the incredible arts and culture scene around our campus. Whether you’re a student, staff member, or just exploring the city, this guide will connect you to creative spaces, events, and opportunities nearby.

Loughborough University Graphic Design graduate Freya Neame produced the illustrated map. Freya impressed us with her unique creative vision and strong portfolio. As part of this exciting commission, she worked closely with ourselves and Loughborough University London staff to research and highlight the vibrant cultural spots across the local area.

Where to get your copy?
Pick up a free map from our stand at the Welcome Stalls/Freshers Fest on Thursday 24 September or look for a copy in your goody bag during induction/welcome week. You can also pick up a copy from campus reception or on Floor 4 at Loughborough University London.  Start exploring & get inspired!
